At College or University

Assessment
We provide assessments for adults attending further education (College; University) who are experiencing learning (e.g. reading, dyslexia, dyspraxia) related difficulties. We understand auditory processing and visual stress.

An assessment typically involves:

  • Completing a background questionnaire.
  • Meeting with a Chartered Educational Psychologist.
  • Participating with a number of cognitive (problem solving) tests, together with further literacy related (reading and spelling) tests (lasting up to 2 hours).
  • Assessment is conducted in a relaxed and friendly way that is comfortable for you.
  • A report is provided in under 10 days, often enabling students to access a Needs Assessment for Disability Student Allowance (resulting in resources to assist with their dyslexic or particular learning needs).
  • Adults with dyslexia, dyspraxia and other needs  are shown a strength and weakness profile and a report with recommendations.

Advice and Support

  • Awareness Raising courses lead by an Educational Psychologist and briefings which can include an explanation of what dyslexia is and how it can affect individuals, an outline of the skills and abilities of dyslexic people, presenting strategies for both individuals and course tutors as appropriate to make adjustments and overcome some problems related to study. This can also be organised for other learning difficulties.
  • Training can be organised for University staff (e.g. Learning Support Officers, Disability Services).
  • Support (cognitive behavioural and/or solution focused approaches) for staff (e.g. for anxiety and exam nerves).
  • Telephone advice for students and staff.
  • Disability Student Allowance (DSA) related information, advice, assessment or bookings.
  • Assessments (e.g. dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia) by negotiation with University Student Services to enable their students access to appropriate support.
  • Consultancy service for University staff and colleges.
